Kaiser Franz Joseph (1910)
(36x56cm, watercolour on Bockingford, extra rough, 425g). I’ve been asked to paint our former Emperor of Austria for a local museum. I started to create some quick sketches to find the best composition and to get familiar with the tonal values. For my watercolour painting I used French Ultramarine, Alizarin Crimson, Naples Yellow, Burnt Sienna and Burnt Umber. For all the decoration on his uniform I used additionally some Quinacridone Gold.
