Water Lilies, watercolour on Saunders Waterford High White paper, (61x45.5cm)
Learn how to paint a study of water lilies using the glazing technique to build up the colour in delicate layers with Rachel McNaughton.
Top tips before you begin:
- For successful glazing the painting needs to be completely dry between glazes. A hairdryer will be useful!
- Draw the waterlily petals, making sure they all appear to come from a central point, which is where the stem would join the flower.
- There is no need to draw stamens in their centres.
- Draw a few leaves, but leave others to be suggested in paint later in the process.
Note that perylene and cascade green are from the Daniel Smith range of watercolours.
