What is TALP?
The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition (TALP), in partnership with Patchings Art Centre, has been offering artists of all abilities the chance to earn recognition and prizes for their artwork for almost 30 years.
Each year we invite submissions of two-dimensional works in any media (including drawings, paintings, printmaking and digital artwork) to two categories - amateur painters in the Leisure Painter category, and from more experienced and professional artists in The Artist category.

Why should I enter next year?
- 70 works in each category are selected by esteemed artist judges, David Curtis, Haidee-Jo Summers and Liz Wood, former editor of The Artist, Sally Bulgin, and current editors of the magazines, Jane Stroud and Ingrid Lyon, for exhibition at Patchings Art Centre, opening on the first day of the Patchings Festival in Nottinghamshire.
- The 140 exhibited works, along with those highly-commended by the judges, will also be featured on the Painters Online gallery and are eligible for the public vote for the People’s Choice Awards - vote in the 2024 exhibition here.
- Art prizes from our fantastic prize sponsors are awarded in both categories
- A selection of exhibited works are featured in the magazines, promoting artists to a worldwide audience.
- TALP is open to artists of all abilities and worldwide - you never know where your art could take you!

How do I enter?
When we launch TALP Open 2025, visit the WIN page where you will be able to choose which category, The Artist or Leisure Painter, and how many artworks you'd like to enter:
- Up to three entries for £25
- Up to six entries for £45
Then simply follow the instructions to upload your artwork. When all your paintings have been uploaded pay your entry fee to confirm entry to the competition.
