Two paintings by Yorkshire Artists, Ruth Buchanan and Julie Cross, are heading out to be displayed at the ‘Fabriano in Acquarello’ exhibition in Italy in April and May. The annual exhibition, held in the famous paper-making town, takes over most of the public buildings and is organised by the International Watercolour Society (IWS). It features watercolour paintings from all around the globe and includes work from the world’s best and most famous watercolour painters.

The paintings ‘Buckle Up‘ and ‘King’s College, Light at the End of the Tunnel’ are among fifteen paintings chosen to represent British watercolours (see both paintings below).

The two Yorkshire based professional painters are friends who have exhibited together in the past through British based art societies and at Bramham Horse Trials. Ruth is best known as an equestrian artist, although she also paints architectural and figurative subjects. This is the second consecutive year that she has had one of her paintings selected. Julie’s past achievements include winning BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year, Best Body of work at The Wildlife Art Society International Exhibition and The Buxton Sketchbook prize last year, when she also won the regional BBC Presenter’s Portrait award for her oil painting of Harry Gration.

Both artists are hoping to be able to attend the artist days in Fabriano in April, which includes demonstrations, workshops and social gatherings with some of world’s Watercolour Masters.
