The winner of the 'The Artist Best Picture Award' at Roehampton Art Club's recent Art Exhibition has just been announced. The voting was close but the decisive winner was Roses in the Studio painted in acrylics by Naomi Alvarez.
The award was presented to Naomi by Tony Frazer-Price, a contributor to the The Artist, on Tuesday evening in the Roehampton Art Group's studio, filled with an impressive turnout of the club's artists. The paintings on the shortlist lined the walls.
Close runners up included a collage by Deborah Power, Hammersmith Bridge in watercolour by Claire Wyatt and a delightful drawing, Jaipur Elephant by Sylvia Manasseh who, at 97, is the Cclub's oldest active artist!
The winner received a subscription to The Artist magazine. In his speech to the assembled artists, Tony Frazer-Price took the opportunity to explain the magazine's new venture: a nationwide competition for the Art Club of the Year 2016, which the Roehampton Art Group is encouraged to enter.
