Winner of February's The Artist 90th anniversary challenge announced

Francis Hayes has been selected as the winning entry in our February 90th anniversary painting challenge.

Francis Hayes has been selected as the winning artist in February's The Artist 90th anniversary challenge for his watercolour painting, Tignes, France 2019, see below.

Each month we are inviting entries on a theme inspired by a key event of 1931, the year which saw the launch of the magazine.

In February 1931 Malcolm Campbell set the world land speed record of 246.08 mph driving his famous Blue Bird car at Daytona Beach, Florida. Therefore, our February challenge was to paint on the theme of, or inspired by, speed.

Oozing exhilaration, the judges felt Francis had captured the excitement and intensity of man's desire for speed in his entry.
