Winner of Birkett Ferguson Award announced

After opening the Creative Coverage Forest Connections exhibition at the New Forest Centre, Lyndhurst, Richard Digance announced the winner of the coveted Birkett Ferguson Award.

And it is Keep Dreaming by Lynne Davies from Denmead, Hampshire. "I am over the moon, it made my day, " says Lynne. Hampshire based Lynne Davies is a self-taught artist, born in Jarrow in 1973. "After winning a packet of felt tip pens in an art competition at the age of five and completing my first commissioned portrait was at 12 years old," recalls Lynne. "I knew I was put on the earth to paint and I have never looked back." Inspired by nature, travel, (in particularly the colours and textures of Rome), wildlife, romance, classical art and music, Lynne is a passionate painter of beautiful, expressive, large, (increasingly more abstract) images. Her favourite medium is acrylic on canvas. She exhibits extensively and regularly shows her paintings and prints at shows in and around the Winchester area. "I really enjoy meeting new people," she says. Her first very successful solo exhibition was at the Oxmarket Centre of Art in Chichester in 2011. Her work is in collections across the globe. The winner of the Derek Davis Award (Arundel Gallery Trail Visitors' Favourite Artist) is also a three times finalist in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the Year. She has been a commended finalist in the SAA Artist of the Year. Other achievements include producing the winning Christmas card design at Highbury College for the National Year of Reading and receiving the highly commended award at Portsmouth Museum.
