Prestigious Art Event returns to Windsor Castle 21st July 2018

Prestigious Art Event returns to Windsor Castle 21st July 2018

En Plein Air – Windsor and Eton, one of the town’s most prominent and prestigious competitions, is generating a lot of interest this year when the eyes of the world have been firmly focused on Windsor!

Royal consent has been granted to allow the competition to be staged within the walls of Windsor Castle. This is a privileged, unique chance for the artists to soak up the magnificent architecture while painting in one of the world’s most famous castles.

100 artists, both amateur and professional, have applied to take part in the day and create their own masterpieces within a 6.5-hour time frame. Visitors to the Castle will be able to watch the artists at work in eleven locations and if a particular piece takes their fancy they can purchase it later at the pop-up exhibition and gallery.

The winner will receive a number of prizes - £500 cash, £500 Loxley Artists materials, a discounted stand at Contemporary Art Fairs – Windsor and most importantly their painting will become part of HM The Queen’s collection.

Following the competition, a pop-up gallery will be staged in Windsor Royal Shopping, where the judging will also take place. This year’s panel of judges are Desmond Shawe-Taylor, Surveyor of the Queen’s Pictures, Sir James Perowne, Governor of Windsor Castle and Nicholas Bayldon Pritchard of Contemporary Fine Art Gallery, Eton. Visitors can also vote for their favourite piece of artwork.

Once the judging is complete art lovers will have a unique opportunity to buy the paintings just created and enjoy a glass of fizz from the Prosecco bar as they browse the stunning images of the Castle.

A final selection of the work can be seen at Contemporary Art Fairs – Windsor, 10 -11 November 2018
