About the Society

Our Society is the longest established in North Lincolnshire, having been formed in 1941 by 6 friends from the Art School in Silver Street, Grimsby, to enable them to pursue their artistic talents in a friendly and informal environment, something we strongly maintain today. The aim of the Society is to inform and encourage its members through the many activities arranged throughout the year.

Our calendar of events opens in February with the AGM, which is followed by a lunch and a demonstration/talk given by a guest artist. Following on from this we have fortnightly social painting sessions, where members enjoy getting together to paint in the medium and subject of their choice and the less experienced can benefit from tips and guidance from more established artists. Outdoor painting days are also arranged during the warmer months, which provide further opportunities for members to socialise. Workshops and demonstrations take place throughout the year, given by well known artists, which have included Ashley Jackson, Rob Brindley, Robert Wareing, Fraser Scarfe and Vic Bearcroft, to name but a few.

The final event of our year is a Christmas lunch, combined with a demonstration, to end the year on a high note!

As well as all this, the Society also puts on two exhibitions of members' work each year, at one of which awards are given for the paintings which an independent panel of judges deem to be the best in each of 8 categories.

Members are kept informed of upcoming events, both within the Society and generally, by way of a quarterly Newsletter and also on our website.

We think that this range of enjoyable activities, together with the way our more experienced members are always willing to offer any help they can to less confident artists, is the reason North Lincs Art Society is still flourishing after so many years, currently boasting around 100 members.
