The Society of Women Artists 157th Annual Exhibition opens at Mall Galleries, London SW1 0n Tuesday September 25th and runs to Sunday 30 September 2018

The exhibition is open daily from 10am - 5pm (1pm on Sunday).

The Society of Women Artists has grown and evolved, since its inception in 1855, into an artistic force to be reckoned with – with works by some of the most inspiring female artists working today as their members. In light of the centenary of (some) women's right to vote this year it is perhaps timely to take a fresh look at an art society that unapologetically remains steadfast in the pursuit of excellence and dedicated to the support, curation and exhibition of art by women.

To the question of is a 'women's' art society in 21st Century Britain still relevant – our answer is still YES - Will the SWA reflect modern society and embrace those who choose not to be defined by gender or decide to change their birth gender completely, again the answer is YES. We need to pay homage to our history whilst becoming evermore flexible and forward thinking. It is after all on the shoulders of those courageous women in antiquity, both in the arts and wider world, on whose shoulders we now stand and look to the future with confidence.

The Artist Award will be presented at the private view, with the winning artist featuring in a 2019 issue of the magazine.
