JR is a Northern artist who lives in the beautiful coastal town of South Shields, where he spends his time creating art from his home studio. His use of medium and style mixes traditional pencil portraiture and modern comic strip / pop art. He works in a variety of mixed mediums, mainly a section of graphite/pencils, watercolours and copic markers, often employing bold lines, soft shading and a huge splash of colour. Aged just 10 JR was recognised for his potential in the artworld and awarded an Art scholarship to attend the prestigious Royal boarding school, King Edwards, Surrey where he spent the next 9 years studying fine art and later attended Sunderland University. JR has exhibited his work all over the North of England and he is an active ambassador of the arts, he can often be found lecturing with local schools and colleges and universities to inspire the next generation of artist. JR has won many awards for his hard work and dedication to inspire and find new talent for the future. In 2015 he was Nominated Entrepreneur of the year. 2016 has been a solid win for JR as an artist Nominated yet again for 'Contribution to Culture' and Winning 'Special Recognition Award' for his work to bring real change in our art education and the positive image of the artist. JR is a more exclusive artists, he often works behind closed doors for his client base and prefers the comforts of his studio than the bright lights of the galleries and shows. A studio filled with Superheros, comic books and the works of pop artists Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.
