An Exhibition of Paintings and Drawings by John Sprakes DA (Edin) ROI RBA MAFA

An exhibition of paintings and drawings by John Sprakes takes place in the Threadneedle Gallery from March 6 to March 11, 2017.

This exhibition of paintings show a cross-section of John Sprakes' (judge in The Artist and Leisure Painter Open Art Competition in partnership with Patchings Art Centre) recent work.

Many of the images have been inspired by the landscape along Hadrians Wall Northumberland. This stretch of dramatic landscape starts at Wallsend in Newcastle to Bo'ness on the Cumbrian coast. The Norfolk and Suffolk coast has also been a source of inspiration to John and features prominently.

Many of the paintings are Still Lifes which John has painted in various interiors.

"Drawing is important in my investigation into the seen and natural world. It is a starting point for my ideas."
