A Celebration of The Work of Raymond Spurrier RI RWA
A celebration of the work of Raymond Spurrier to commemorate the centenary of his birth.
The work of Raymond Spurrier RI RWA, a popular contributor to The Artist magazine for 15 years, is celebrated in a new website launched this month to commemorate the centenary of his birth.
The site features examples of his work in a variety of media.
Primarily a watercolourist, his most familiar subjects were landscapes and townscapes with an abstract interpretation which incorporated a strong sense of pattern and design.
The importance of the individual style of his work was recognised by the V&A in 2017 when the British watercolour collection acquired five of his paintings. His work is also represented in the Government Art Collection and many private collections.
As a writer Raymond wrote about art and other artists as well as his own personal approach to drawing and painting; the website features some of the articles that were originally published in The Artist, including his popular ‘Travelling Hopefully’ series.
