Drifters at Newhaven

Drifters at Newhaven

The composition is fine with the verts of the church against the lasts, but yes maybe larger vessels. I thinkg the colours/tones of the buildings could have been beefed up.

for lasts please read masts

Yes, but I like it.

Looks good to me Alan.

Many thanks for your comments. My own thought now is I need to decide whether this is a painting of drifters or of the waterfront. Need to try again. Congrats Derek on your better in the Artist

Painted on 16" x 12" Saunders Waterford High White Rough Block from on site photographs and sketches of an area I regularly visit. On seeing this image it looks as if there is a lot of pen work but in fact it was a sword liner .Maybe not enough oomph! I think the drifters are too small against the buildings. Their hulls are about 60 feet long. The orange buoy was an attempt to get some design balance. Lachlan Goudie, Daphne Todd, type comments welcome (well maybe more constructive than their Big Painting Challenge remarks).
