A Bird's Eye View - IPAD ART

Sorry Christine, but the way that you have described your method of producing this image only confirms my opinion that this isn't really a suitable site for 'Ipad art'. I can appreciate that these are colourful works which take skill to produce but I feel that this is a site for painters which is why it's called painters online. I've mentioned this before and I know that some will disagree with me :) I'd be interested to hear what others think.

Christine, I think your ipad paintings are terrific - so vibrant! I'm sorry Louise, I disagree with you about this site not really being suitable for ipad art. Aren't artists/painters colourists and don't they use all manner of methods to produce their work? For example, the term Mixed Media covers a vast area, including collage - do you not call that painting? Technology is here to stay and I personally feel that ipad painting is not a gimic. Apart from being extremely skillful I feel it will help thousands of people with hidden artistic talents who say 'I can't paint' because they lack the confidence to pick up a paintbrush and put paint on paper. Keep at it Christine - David Hockney would be proud of you!

I find this a wonderful, vibrant image - Exciting colors and patterns. If the result resonates with the viewer does it matter how it is achieved?

You really are getting good with it Christine! I think that i Pad is wonderful ( I haven't got one -yet) and I would love to learn how to "paint" with it. I certainly would be nice to create greeting cards, visiting cards etc. Modern technology is here and there is room for everybody and everything in the artistic world. VIVE L'art !!!

From viv leigh. I agee with a lady called Pat. there is nothing wrong with this sort of art. You are still painting, but with a different medium, and not a brush, so what. Everyone should open thier minds a bit more. This form of art is just beginning and will be arround long after we are dead, so lets just go with it.

It's lovely, Christine. Love the design and the shapes.

I thought that this might happen. I'm out voted then but I stand by my words, there's nothing wrong with this sort of art, I just feel that the whole ethos of POL would change if too many Ipad images were posted.

Thank you very much Pat, Jane, Satu, Vivienne and Seok for your generous and positive comments. Louise, I think we will have to agree to disagree. Art means different things to different people and I would never presume to undermine what appeals to anyone. I like to try different mediums and have found the iPad quite liberating. I think POL covers a very varied range of styles and mediums and that is what makes it so popular.

I like this a lot , the colours, the design, so I don't think it matters how it was created, but on a personal level I'm not happy unless I'm covered in paint or pastel dust so I'm not hankering after an Ipad. Then again, if hubby presented me with one in an attempt to stop me getting so mucky I wouldn't be so churlish as to refuse it LOL

Thank you Val. I understand completely what you mean but it is nice when you feel like painting something and don't have the time or inclination to get out all the clobber to be able to just sit and create! Hope your hubby comes up trumps (:

I think this a a lovely piece of work with great design and such strong colours. I read somewhere about the process of doing pictures like this on a screen and was astonished with the complexity and the level of skill required; has the ipad made it easier than it was a couple of years back on an ordinary laptop? Whatever the case, I admire someone who can do this.

Thank you so much Jane for your encouraging comment. I've never used a computer for this before so I can't comment on that. I think the iPad has opened up a whole new world. Thanks to the recent David Hockney exhibition it's been given a lot of publicity recently. It suits my style of art as I love bright, solid colours. I tried to reproduce this painting in acrylic but couldn't get the same intensity of colour and preferred the iPad version.

To me this is a triumph of design... And nothing to do with ease or lacking time or inclination etc. Thought and creativity have gone into it. The colours are excellent and the entire effect is striking...I love it. Louise..... I understand your reservations, but I would say that this is an entirely different field of artistic endeavour, not to be compared with what we are familiar with, but having merit in its own right. If we resist change we stagnate, and there is space for all forms of creativity. It can be unsettling to venture into fields new, but it can also be a learning curve....?

Thank you for commenting Ruth, it's certainly opened up a debate!

A very striking design Christine.

I started this yesterday and finished it sitting up in bed this morning. That's the advantage of this style of art - no setting up of paints, water easel etc!
