I've loved canoeing for most of my adult life. Portaging a canoe and several packs over a winding, up and down, portage trail can be tough work. An old canoeing friend called portaging “character building”. That it is and then some! Arduous as it may be there is always something exciting on the first trip over a new trail as each new turn reveals a slice of nature woven with the poetic beauty of discovery that can make one almost forget the 70 pounds on your back.
