Filey Cobles at work.
A reminder of times past when cobles still operated from the beach. The coble was an open traditional fishing boat from Yorkshire & the north east. They had a distinctive shape with a flat bottom & high bows. The flat bottom allowed for launching and landing upon shallow sandy beaches. Their shape is similar to Viking longships & designed to cope with the dangers of the North Sea. As far as I know there are just two remaining operational from Flamborough.
