A great tree Martin.

Really good Martin

Nicely done, like it.

Such a beautiful looking tree and a superb painting, definitely demonstrates your skill.

A beautiful tree - I love the moody light. It might be an Ash as they are very late. Love the sinuous branches.

Really good picture Martin.

It's taking its time to leaf up: older trees tend to do that, and this looks like a veteran.

I like the feeling this image conveys Martin.

Lovely work, Martin.

I always like your combo of Fude pen and watercolour Martin. Works really well here again.

Beautiful.

Another excellent sketch. It's odd how some trees seem 'late'. I have a small tree (Acer species) in my garden, it's always to last to come into full leaf, and the first to lose them in the autumn.

Thanks for your interesting comments everyone. Always a delight to receive. I’ll be walking past the tree soon and will be better able to identify it with its leaves out

Positively sculptural, great sketch.

It's a super pen and wash sketch Martin.

Having revisited the tree later in the year I can confirm it is a Sweet Chestnut

On one of my local walks on 4th May I noticed this tree was only just in bud whilst all around other trees in the ditch side hedgerow had their new leaves fully out. Not sure what species. Possibly Chestnut. Sketched outdoors and finished in. Fude pen and ink with watercolour washes. On Arches cp 9x12”
