Pike, on Whernside
Pen and ink on cartridge paper. This fine cairn on the highest of Yorkshire's Three Peaks is off the beaten track, overlooking Dentdale. A few years ago we were on the hill on the day of the Three Peaks Race when the summit was as crowded as any city centre in the run-up to Christmas but the cairn at Pike was deserted. That's where we opened the lunch packs and took a break - and also took the photographs on which the drawing is based.
