Evening Sunglow on Skiddaw
Gouache on watercolour board. 42x31cm. When the evening sun is low beyond Bass Lake after a glorious clear day Skiddaw can glow as if lit from within, as it was last May. I just had to paint it. The foreground contains elements that exist in nearby Newlands but not as shown; put it down to artistic licence. The Herdwick is not impressed, probably thinking “What am I doing frozen in this picture when I could be usefully grazing?” Anyone have other ideas for a sheep's-brain quote?
