This is a great image. The darkness which surrounds the lamplight makes the man look isolated which then leads me to suggest loneliness and misery. The fact that even the light he has to guide him is dim suggests that even his better moments are pitiful compared with some others. To me its a picture of an alcoholic and i am left hoping he finds his way back home.

Nice work indeed Tony. Suggests to me (via the gas-lamp) it's Friday night in 1950 and he's a had a couple too many pints of Magee Marshall's or Wilson's best beer.. A "never again" morning is on the horizon or, as Omar Khayyam would say: "Indeed, indeed, repentance oft before, I swore, but was a I sober when I swore, And then came spring, and rose in hand, my threadbare penitence apieces tore" ....(-:
