Women cutting turf, Mayo, c1930s. From archival newspaper photo - clothing colours derived from contemporaneous colour photography. Acrylics: Phthalo green, cerulean blue, ultramarine, raw and burnt umber, alarizan crimson, Payne's grey, Zorn Palette (titanium white, yellow ochre, vermilion, ivory black). Quite a story here - men, not women, cut turf; sods are levered out of slits cut into the bog, not at the edge. A mother and daughter (in-law?), neither young...
