Unlit Hopes
Painted on canvas panel, 18x24 in.Among some eastern cultures, there’s a practice and believe that life is a cycle of birth, death and rebirth. It is a way of life that acknowledges the ups and downs of life as a means for an individual’s soul to mature, the body being a temporary house for the soul and life as an opportunity for experience. Intrigued by this concept, I am inspired to bring to light this piece depicting unlit kerosene lamps hung on the wall of a building. The reflections on the lamps symbolizes the souls’s experience already encountered through life. The lamps being lit at night to burn till a new day with the process being repeated again at the first hint of twilight represents the concept of rebirths with hopes that the soul is enrich further with enlightening experience and growth.
