Its a great portrait strong and manly!!!

Lovely pastel work. Wonderful use of colour. You are right better than a photo.

I agree with Jeannette, wonderful use of colour. A powerful image.

You have a delicate touch and marvellous use of colour especially in the skin tones. Lovely portrait.

The eyes and mouth/lips are especially well done. I'm no good with pastel, and have resort to the black to make up for the lack of linear strength - I see you're using it too; I'm in no position to advise on the use of this medium, but I have observed that some pastellists use carbon pencil, charcoal, or black conté crayon in place of black soft pastel... It's just a thought ... as much for my reference as yours, to be honest! Agree with all above - a characterful portrait, and yes: so much better than a photograph (although there's a lot to be said for monochrome photography). Will you be doing more of these? I'd like to see them alongside your other work: Joy Antoine being especially good, alive and vibrant.

A pastel portrait of my son which reveals so much more than a photo, I think.
