I think this is gorgeous - I love the fluidity against the scratchy crayon marks where you haven;t wetted. It is a big tree trunk all gnarled ....

i agree with Gudrun, you have really achieved in bringing out the gnarled look of the trunk, and i like how the crayon against the watercolours add texture :-)

A really interesting and effective study of this tree trunk Sylvia.

Thank you ladies , so nice to have positive comments. This tree is a bit special and its lovely that i can show it to you.

Love this - the bold brushwork and the vibrant interaction of shapes and colors, Beautifully done, Sylvia!

Excellent stuff Sylvia, making close-up studies of things nearly always create good abstracted images. Allthough it doesn't always work. I recently took a section from a Degas pic turned it around and tried it, didn't work, I made a right mess of it so I've scraped it all off to try again. best Mick

Thanks Seuk and Mick. .Must take a lesson from myself and do more close up s.

This is a great way to make a special image of one of your favourite subjects. I'd love to see some of the other paintings you have done of your Olive tree. Love the absract look and the mix of wet and dry for texture.

I like this kind of abstract version of your olive tree, lovely colours Sylvia.

Wondrefully strong image.

This says Sylvia to me. The boldness and the solidity of the image make it very alive. Wonderful study for fabric too!

It sounds like visiting an old friend Sylvia. I hope that you had a good holiday, this painting is smashing. I like your use of colour here as it makes the bark look drenched in warm sun rays. Great abstract painting :)

wonderful love the abstract feel

Almost on an annual basis I seek out this very old olive tree. It is way up a hillside by a ruined settlement., on the island of Kefalonia , I think I have done some half a dozen studies of it. I sit in the sun , usually very uncomfortably and enjoy the tree all over again. This rather abstract version is ink and watercolour crayon. on lovely rough paper.
