SKYE SCRIBBLE by Sylvia Evans

How do, Sylvia - I do like this a lot; you've sat there and done it, and it shows in the immediacy of the "scribble" - actually a very effective drawing. What were the watercolour crayons? They've still given you a dynamic result, however old they are - are you going to work this up into a "proper" painting? I like it as it is - your signature is written all through it, reflecting that wild Celtic personality!

They are Caran D ache Neo colour Robert. I really have had them a long long time.. I sat there getting very cross as I could only use the pointy end, I like to break them up and use the sides etc. I also didn't have a knife or scalpel about my person. So a few expletives were thrown around.. Pleased that you like the ensuing effort, its just as well it has not got sound.

Sylvia, I love your scribble!! I like this type work, on the spot and energetic. Have you got any more hidden in the pages of your sketch book....hope so.

Scrape the sides of the stick with a pen-knife, scalpel or finger-nail - however old they are, they should still yield their colour. I'd be prepared to pay for the sound, by the way, had you recorded it: swearing in Welsh has a quality all its own.......

Great work, Sylvia........I love the immediacy of it, exactly what sketch books are for. It doesn't matter if you take it any further, or not, as it will always remind you of that moment.....SUPER!!!

Really 'excititing' if you know what I mean - nice work Sylvia

Funny how things just "happen" which is what happened here. So pleased that you all like it. I am going to use it as a starting point for a "proper" painting. Though I know now what it will turn out to be. I shall lose that immediacy and freshness. It will probably be an o k pic , well I hope so. But the "moment " will be gone. How do you/ other people cope with that. I will start it as a thread on the forum.

Hi Sylvia . I read your piece on the forum re this sketch. I think that it is brave and bold and very atmospheric. I know what you mean about redoing a good picture, I am the same as you and automatically "tighten up" when I am redoing a scene. All the best sarah

I agree with the above comments, Sylvia: this is sooo atmospheric and lively. Stunning!

Great to see this in your portfolio.Sorry to sound a bit arty, but I like seeing the spiral binding in the centre. Good atmotspheric work.

You certainly let rip with this one! It's great and really shows the wild landscape of Skye. I like the way you take it across two pages. It enhances the landscape, whereas I would have limited myself to one page. You learn something new every day!

Very nicely done, Sylvia. You've captured a lot of atmosphere, and I like the spontaneous lines.

This is great Sylvia - very imediate and atmospheric. Thanks for looking and commenting on my work too.

wonderful i love the quick and colourful sketches.............

Twenty minutes of wrestling with some very ancient...possibly 20 years old water colour crayons sitting on a decidedly damp bank ,on Skye last week.. I wanted to just create an atmosphere. So this scribble evolved. Big, wild, beautiful.
