I have never tackled anything quite like this before. being a watercolourist it was quite a revelation to be able to paint on top and muck about with edges until they were in the right place! I need to work on the baby and the mother, and seeing the lawrence exhibition at the NPG gave me a wonderful clue about tackling the baby's dress .
