This is an interesting concept which seems to have worked very well. I'll have to try this myself.

Hi Steve, I've missed a lot of postings over the holiday period as well. Thanks for taking the time to comment on some of mine. I really like this oil pastel painting, have some myself but have only really used them for wax/oil resist in some watercolours. You've spurred me on to having another go with them. I love using the soft pastels even though, like you, I end up with multi-coloured dust all over me!

Hello Steve! I never know where to post my replies: your place or mine? Nice to receive your comments on a couple of my work (The Patient and Peony) It then gives one an opportunity to go and see who is writing ... A lovely discovery for me: you seem to be afraid of nothing when it comes to trying new art media, with good results I might add. I found it interesting that you included your work with greeting cards. I come from the work of "small stuff" and it took me some time to get a feel for larger pieces. On a different slant, geography: although I have been in Canada for a long while, I lived in Ormskirk for 6 years ...Are you around Liverpool? Thanks for the chat. Claudine

Very nice. Like this a lot. Love the richness of the medium here.

Steve, thank you so much for your comment on the Oil Pastel. Like you, I can see from the above gorgeous oil pastel. I think I am preferring them to soft pastel. With regard to your question. I used the very heavy toothed Colorfix and used just a thin acrylic wash over the paper and let it run just like watercolour. I got some very interestubg results. I used Sennelier oil pastels (supposed to have been made originally for the great Picasso!). I found them buttery & wonderful to work with - they blended so well with warm fingers. Hope this helps.

Another experiment with the black wet and dry sandpaper as a support. So far i am preferring the oil pastel to the soft pastel as with these i don't end up covered in pastel dust and looking like a chimney sweep.
