I can spot your style from a mile away , it's a nice piece and it works well. How did you get on on drawing with the rigger , it's only one step away from painting without a drawing . I paint in large areas first and make sure they are in the correct place in relation to each other, then the detail seems much easier. Well done Stephen.

This is good, Stephen. The figures look natural and have movement, the paving looks good, and you've achieved nice perspective. Nice one, especially with using the rigger to draw too.

Many thanks Dennis and Ann. The trouble with watercolour is once you lose the white paper you can't get it back, so I think I need the security of some sort of drawing. Perhaps drawing with a brush is a little freer than pencil or pen? I will continue to experiment.

Yes Stephen that's a good point with watercolour the drawing would help you keep the white paper in the key highlight areas, so the drawing is essential.

Real nice job Stephen, the figures are loosely done but well thought out. Difficult to do watercolour without the 'filling in' aspect. Though you've pretty much succeeded here.

Warm and wonderful painting Stephen.

That's how I approach all my sketches also Stephen, smashing figures in this piece.

Many thanks everyone for your kind and thoughtful comments, much appreciated.

From a photograph on a recent visit, tried drawing it out quickly with a rigger to get a looser feel.
