Very good practice!

Well done Stephen your tree in this is very good.

Always good to practice trees painting Steven, like you I have painted hundred but still find each one individually difficult. I suppose it’s like real trees each on is so unique and different, our job as artist is to show the similarities but definitely show the difference. Keep it coming your tree are good , I’m sure you strive to improve all the time .

Nicely painted Stephen

Nice one Stephen, some good marks in this. I don’t think we ever totally master the medium but in my opinion practice does pay off.

Nothing like painting a tree & this is a good one. I find with trees that they are ordered chaos. Avoid repeating patterns and putting branches opposite each other. I tend to put shadows of branches across the truck which gives a sense depth. Hope you don't my mind my ten pennyworth Stephen.

Any thanks everyone for your encouraging thoughts. I always pay heed to good advice such as yours Stephen.

I still find trees quite difficult to paint, even after hundreds of hours practice. I remember Alwyn Crawshaw demonstrating one method in a video. Following his advice here, I painted the structure of the tree and then while that was still wet I strongly added the foliage. If you are quick enough, the foliage colour mingles with the ‘woodwork’, so you can’t see the branches underneath the foliage. I then added some neat Lemon Yellow to the upper left give some sunlight and then painted the shaw of the tree.

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
