A well painted piece of work Stephen.

Excellent use of a muted palette.

A tremendous piece of work, Stephen. So different from your other works.

Lovely, I like the detail as you say.

This is particularly good Stephen and I think one of your best.

Many thanks everyone for your very encouraging thoughts. It is more detailed than I usually paint, that’s why I used the pen first, which makes things easier. I do think William Newton’s work has a nice balance between detail and free washes. His book ‘Complete guide to watercolour’ has some lovely examples and good advice.

Excellent Stephen! I shy away from architecture, I should really challenge myself…..one of these days.

Lovely painting Stephen, like the muted palette

Many thanks Romila, Fiona and David, for your encouraging comments.

Really good perspective here Stephen.

Many thanks Carole, I think must of us struggle with perspective, it was easier here as I was copying from William’s original.

Another copy from Mr. Newton’s book ‘complete guide to watercolour painting’. I like his work, a good balance between some detail and freshness. This is in line and wash, rather than his pure watercolour original.

Stephen Slater

I am a self taught amateur painter, I mostly paint landscapes in watercolour but I 'dabble' in other mediums from time to time. I really enjoy my art, especially painting outdoors when the weather allows.
