An amazing 3 days Sian. Perhaps the style and focus was not for you but we all have to try something different sometimes. I think there are some good features with perspective in the 3 paintings, but I prefer your original style if I'm honest as it's a bit more quirky and less traditional. I like the "17 in a rooom" title bit! Keep your sense of humour at all times!

Thank you, Pat. As I have been painting for less than a year I was hoping for some tuition but everyone just started painting - at speed - leaving me struggling to keep up. I appreciate your comment as it gives me a bit of confidence to slow down and try my way again.

Hi Sian, I only now realized that you went to an3 day group painting. That explains the different looking results. This one is more like your usual work with a little bit of hesitation. You could paint this again in your way with bright, even colours, make the bridge and the houses look more interesting. I like the blue gondola but it needs an other bright spot somewhere else in the painting. After having said all that I also agree with Pam that it's good and important to try different things now and then. I'm going to a Linocut course next week! Keep painting Sian!

Oh, Sian, I felt really sad when you said about feeling isolated and not having painted anything since that course. I hope that you have picked up the brush again and going your own way. Art is not copying somebody else's work but creating your own!! I started an Lino cutting course yesterday ( 3x2 hours) Saturday mornings and we were 7 really different people + a young teacher. I was sitting between a Vietnamese lady and a Polish man. We had to draw a picture on a piece of paper then trace it and then transfer it onto lino. Cutting starts next week and printing after that. I'll post the result if it works. Very interesting! Take care Sian! Satu

17.8.11 The last morning and I just could not stick to what we were given. Reduced the picture to a quarter, simplified it to get some geometric shapes and went mad with colour. PS sorry to put 3 up in one day.

I always find it interesting to read about the rest of you. I gave up art when I had to chose between it and maths at 'school. I then gave it a go when I retired and have found it a fascinating hobby, enabling me to view with new eyes, to visit art galleries with greater interest, to sometimes haveā€¦
