We've just been discussing the merits of gouache paint. By chance your painting appeared ! I'd been trying to remember your name! You should try gouache if you haven't already. It's the perfect medium for your super abstracts. I think it would really suit your work. It gives a nice matt finish. Lovely gallery especially "Katy and Quinces" If you already use gouache just ignore me :}

Lovely cool graphic painting.You seem to have done the work with a bit of resolve which is great. Louise has made a good point,but it is also worth looking at the work of Piet Mondrian which you may instantly think of as very graphic but on closer inpection there can be a more painterly and layered paint appreciation.

Hi Sian, nice composition here and loads to look at. Are you using watercolor paper or acrylic paper? Masking tape is sometimes quite strong and can tear off paper. You can buy low adhesive masking tape which works better with paper and also remember to pull it off very gently and wait until the paint is completely dry before reapplying tape. Kind regards Satu

What a treat! I was slightly dismayed when my picture appeared on the front page in the midst of all the experts and professionals but am delighted to come in and find helpful responses from my 2 favourite artists. Louise, I don't think I have ever seen gouache so I will look into it. Satu, it was painted on hardboard coated with household emulsion and I probably did get impatient and pull the tape off too early. And David, I like your Hunstanton painting a lot. It is the nearest sea to me too and I am also near Chichley House which features many times on your website. I will look up Modrian and the definition of graphic painting. Thank you all.

. . . or maybe not. I tried using masking tape for the first time but managed to pull off some paint. Will practise. This is a new version, with some shapes slightly changed, of Wall Well - the view past our well and over our wall to our neighbour's house.

I always find it interesting to read about the rest of you. I gave up art when I had to chose between it and maths at 'school. I then gave it a go when I retired and have found it a fascinating hobby, enabling me to view with new eyes, to visit art galleries with greater interest, to sometimes haveā€¦
