Kirstie, a friend of mine, Arnold Marc Tan, has a toy poodle painting in his gallery on this site. Although it is painted in oil, you may want to take a look at it, as it may give you ideas of how to start on your poodles.

How lovely! What gorgeous dogs. Just right to have the pale background of the sofa as a perfect foil for the markings on the dog's coats. Just a lovely portrait.
