I've been trying to do that as well Seok! This cat has worked very well - lovely :)

I agree with Margaret - really good result and better for no drawing! Nice and loose...

Love this one Seok it's great . I never draw just paint no matter what medium , be it digital or traditional methods. I find it easier to lay in large shapes in the correct position and the rest follows easier. Nice to see your still around and creating your delightful paintings , thank you for your comments on my pictures. Happy new year.

I never draw on a canvas because it kills my painting and the whole thing becomes stiff and lifeless. I love your cat here, Seok, I can see very confident marks done with delicacy and the eye is just wonderful.

Beautifully painted Seok, you have a lovely sensitive style.

This is fantastic, Seok. Couldn't paint without drawing (I think!!). Maybe I just have to give it a go.

I never draw...either. This is lovely Seok.

Lovely soft colours and gentle expression, Seok. I've got one of Jean Haines' books on her watercolour technique. (I'm afraid I always do a drawing first.)

Lovely feeling

Well done Seok. That is a real cat's look. Happy New Year to you. Haven't seen your work for a while.

Lovely experiment, Seok.

This is a lovely study Seok. I believe that anything that diverts the brain away from detail in the early stages of a painting helps to create loose fresh work. I haven’t completely moved away from an initial sketch but I only use it to establish shapes not detail.

This is fabulous Seok, so very well executed.

Thanks so very much, everyone. And to all of you who have painted without first sketching, you too have been my inspiration. I've often admired your works on POL and wished I could paint with such confidence and skill!

That's clever Seok! I dont think I could paint without drawing first but you have painted this lovely cat so well.

Thanks very much, Margaret!

Jasmine is stunning as is the colours and the way you watercolour Seok.

Delightful, Seok. Beautifully subtle.

Thanks very much, Sarah and Shirley!

Small study of my brother's cat in Oceanside, California, USA. I've recently been inspired by some of Jean Haines' videos to paint without first drawing. It looks much easier on video! Watercolor on Arches Cold-Pressed Paper.
