Grasp the Thorn

Grasp the Thorn

We are having an unusually wet season here in England so your magnificent rose helps us to dream about summer and sunshine. This painting is so professional Seok and I do admire your talent very much!

Lucky you being able to sit outside and paint this beautiful rose. Not that I ever paint outside and certainly, the idea of doing so here at the moment just doesn't appeal. Laughable really, nothing but rain, cold and probably rotting rose bushes in our water logged soil! This is really lovely Seok, both flower and background perfect!

I'm not at all keen on grasping the thorn - it's a good way to Tetanus - but I'll have your painting instead. Painting outdoors in England at the moment is just a touch unfeasible - rain, floods, winds: I'd rather have the cold.

A very beautiful rose which you have depicted with enormous talent. A pleasure to look at on this gloomy afternoon with another storm of strong wind on its way.

Beautiful Seok, I can almost smell it! Welcome back to POL glad you found us again!

I love the open form of the rose, when it's beauty and scent is at it's peak....beautifully captured Seok. I hope the New Year celebration went well!

Really exquisite, as most of your paintings are. Lovely colours and nicely loose interpretation of the greenery.

Love the 'intro' Seok, must look up the poem! Beautiful rose, semi abstract which I love.

Delicate and exquisite. A lesson to us all: don't shy away from a challenge.

Seok what a stunning water painting! fabulous colours, and to think I almost missed it! thanks so much for your super comments on my recent portraits, they are so much appreciated, I am well out of my comfort zone painting in watercolour, but that Carnival portrait was very well received and I had so much fun doing it, and there are 2 or 3 other photos in that challenge that I am getting more and more tempted to have a go at before then end of the month, that it is rather quickly becoming a watch out for more of the same one from me!, in the meantime I have today just posted on this site my latest input to a pencil challenge, it is another portrait, you might like to have a look if you get the time, bye for now Seok xxx

Thanks so very much everyone! I am very sorry to hear that you're having such miserable weather. I hope it'll improve for you very soon.

absolutely beautiful again

Simply stunning!

We're having an unusually cool season in Singapore at the moment and my rose bush is covered with huge blooms. The title of the painting is taken from Anne Bronte's poem, The Narrow Way: But he who dares not grasp the thorn Should never crave the rose. Painted en plein air.
