A Salubrious Venue
A little gazebo surrounded by conifers on the grounds of the Okzhetpes Hotel in Borovoe National Park, Kazakhstan. The hotel was a former sanitarium in the Soviet era, used to treat patients with tuberculosis as it was believed that the aroma of the pines and other conifers was conducive to healing. The hotel was pretty dated and the food tasted like it came from a Soviet gulag (all courtesy of a dreadful Singapore travel agent which someone in our travel group used and which I would recommend only on pain of a slow and tortuous death). The only thing to commend the place was the pristinely beautiful surroundings, so I tried to make the best of it. Painted in about 45 minutes, en plein air.
