Koenigin der Nacht
A night-flowering cereus, this beautiful, ephemeral plant is known in Germany by the rather romantic name, "Queen of the Night". My parents have had this plant in their garden since I was a small child, but I have never, ever, seen the flower in bloom. In Singapore, the flower blooms only at midnight and is wilted by the time morning comes, and I could never stay awake for it. While visiting friends in Germany over the past two weeks, I saw the flower bloom for the first time in my life. For some reason, the flowers bloom in the daytime in Germany and stay opened for at least two days. I could not let the opportunity to capture this momentous occasion pass! Painted en plein air.
