Storm Petrel

I painted this in the mid 1990s when I was studying Biology for my degree. I spent a lovely 6 weeks on the Calf of Man (an island just off the Isle of Man) assisting the warden with ringing birds, including Manx Shearwaters and Storm Petrels which came to the island at night to roost. I hardly painted at all in those days, having been put off by a Foundation course which left me thinking it was not for me! Think this was probably one of the last things I did before picking it up again around 20 years later. It brings back nice memories of a beautiful place with wonderful wildlife - hope you like it!

Thank you so much Heather, Paul, David, Coral, Fiona and Karen. Yes, it was such a privilege to see those birds up close. I didn't do any ringing as I hadn't a licence but I was allowed to handle them and the best part was releasing them back to their nests.
