Thank you very much everyone for your comments. Frank they are from a very old apple tree in our garden. We took an apple along to an Apple Day at Clumber Park and it was identified as a Merton Worcester - quite an old variety and out of favour but they are the nicest apples I've ever tasted! Thanks again.
