I am so glad it nagged and nagged at you Satu. I dont think you need a lot to " happen " in a painting. Simple, understated beutifully painted. .

It's really lovely Satu, I can feel the crispness of the snow and the brittleness of the ice. As Sylvia says it's simplicity is it's attraction.

It was so right to keep at you! Very beautiful. The blue line that leads us and the spring sun shining on the ice.......perfect! Feel happy!

Satu, this jumped out at me so something must be happening in the painting. As has been seen, it's the understatement - ice does melt quietly and imperceptively and presumably Spring Ice is doing just that. Beautiful.

Thank you Sylvia, Christine, Avril and Gudrun for your very kind comments!

To be able to produce something beautifu or attractive, or striking, out of a scne where nothing is happening, is the mark of a true artist!!!

Brrr! I can feel the cold. It is very effective, and looks very real :)

I like it, Satu, the others have already said it all. Snow and ice are very difficult to paint convincingly, you have it here

Ruth, Sarah and Jenny, thank you for your encouraging comments!!

The hardest paintings to pull of, I think, are the ones where there isn't a lot going on and there is no focal point. These painting then become all about the colour, light, textures and design of the piece. I think you realised this when you were doing this painting as you have got all four components very skilfully spot on. A painting to be proud of.

So glad you listened to the photo Satu. You have produced a beautiful understated, clean crisp painting.

Working backwards and have just posted a comment on Avrils last posting - my comments there apply equally here - another gem!

I agree with all the above a lovely painting

Thank you Thea, Fiona, Michael and Glennis for your kind and encouraging comments! They are very important for me.

Really like this Satu. Glad you painted it. Jx

This is the last of the Finnish series painted this year. I took the photo last year with no intension to make a painting out of it but it kept nagging: paint me, paint me. So at the end I did and it was quite difficult because there's not a lot happening here. Only melting snow and ice and a couple of dead rushes poking up here and there. Still I'm glad I did it! Acrylic on MDF with palette knife 60cm x 60cm
