So very different from your usual work Satu. Workshops can send us off in different mind sets sometimes and i think that is all to the good. This image has impact. She looks so small and vulnerable facing the unknown , it made me feel unsettled. Dont know if that was your intention but it brought to mind a massive painting which i saw at the portrait gallery in Edinburgh called "The oncologists" it was a different theme but if you know the one i mean you might feel the resonance? Cant remember the name of the artist but i definitely recall the image.

You are so right Angela, it makes me feel unsettled too. It was not my intention at all but as it always seems to happen when I paint my brush has it's own mind and I have to follow. All the others at the workshop were doing lovely landscapes or town squares and we had Derek Daniell as tutor so what do I do, something completely different. I don't know the painting you mentioned but I'll google it and thank you Angela for your continuous support.

Its actually called "Three Oncologists" and I saw it in Edinburgh Art Gallery this is the link http://www.beatsdesign.co.uk/cgi-bin/blog_viewer.pl?post=110 This is an absolutely massive painting in reality and the screen version doesn't really have the impact of the original, but for your interest..

Thank you Angela, I found it! It is a spooky painting but at same time magnificent. One can feel the interrupted tension in the air and the uncertainty of the operation. Glad I saw it.

Yes its an unsettling painting, but i like it , I think I would have been tempted to have just a little light on the horizon if I had painted it , just to give the hope of a wonderful future to the little girl.

Thank you William for your comment and tip. I think I'll do just that and add some light and perhaps use a brighter red for her dress. I have to do something to make it happier. Thanks!

Fairly big oil painting done in a workshop today. I have this photo of my granddaughter standing in front of the sea, so I used it as a starting point. Perhaps the coulours are a bit pale but I don't really want to change it anymore.Photo didn't come out very well on the computer.
