Looks good to me Ruth, well executed, not to my taste. To be honest I hate animal pics, and absolutely detest 'cute' baby animals, that doesn't mean I can't appreciate well done work. The baby fur looks fine and I see no problem with the darks. I have found the best darks for pastel in the high range greens, blues, and purples. For me the best of all is the dark range Derwent Charcoal pencil. best Mick

Cutesy , sweet...so different for you Ruth. Love the baby fluff on top of his head. Great first attempt.

Ruth, since you have invited comments... First of all I think it is a well drawn image of a very cute animal. As regards possible improvements I was wondering if an almost uniformly coloured dark background would not bring out the lovely fur even more.

Mick, I agree about the Derwent charcoal pencil, and I had forgotten that I had it...I may use it to darken the area around the head further. Sylvia, thanks for your lovely comment. Pat, Thank you for your helpful comment. I am thinking about darkening round the head area, but invariably find myself in a dilemma as to whether to include some indication of the animal's habitat, and my idea here was to suggest a dry SA veldt, I am planning to do another take on the same photo, using graphite, and will probably use an altogether black background, see how it goes. Cheers.

Also not an animal pic person but must say this a great example so well depicted.

Enjoyed painting this although the baby fluff was hard to achieve and I am not too happy about it...The lack of absolute darks presented difficulties.
