Early morning light on the island

That is a beautiful painting, Romila. Love how have used the light especially about the goat eating from the tree!

I think this is great Romila and, as you say, the light on the goats is fantastic. My view is that the foreground doesn't need toning down, it reads like it is very hot and in sunlight.

I think that this is done, and you should leave it now: you can always paint another study of the same scene, but while a darker foreground might add depth by pushing the lighter painting back, I'm not at all sure that it would read well - there isn't enough foreground to do any more than add a glaze: if there were more, I'd say 'do it', but I think to try more at this point would make you a member of the national organization of fiddlers, and that is to be avoided. The concentration is on the semi-silhoutted goats, which is where it needs to be: it's an effective painting as it stands.

"silhouetted" was the word I was groping for there - this is what happens when you turn your spell-checker off (and forget how to turn it back on again).

I think this is really excellent Romila! That strong contrast between light and dark in the foreground works so well and the rim of light around the goat standing on its hind legs is so effective. In my opinion it is brilliant just as it is. I think it is one of your best.
