You sound just like me Roger, always studying and having doubts even after framing! But not always...there are paintings which you know you are satisfied with. Here, you've got the colours perfectly, in my opinion - the almost "Greek / Mediterranean" look of some parts in the West of Scotland.

16" x 20" oil on canvas, painted from a plein air watercolour. I've posted this painting before. I know: you have to know when to stop fiddling but I think it was justified this time. The painting was on my wall but I wasn't entirely happy with it. Guy Bailey's Iona, after Cadell inspired me to work on my most Cadell-influenced painting. At the weekend, I realised how I might improve the lump of rocks on the right middle-distance. It was too dominant. It was a risk, as the painting was already framed. I scumbled a bluish grey over part of the rocks to knock them back. Then made the line where they meet the sand a more interesting shape. I added a few highlights on the pointed rock and on the gannet. I thought I'd risk a few waves to add movement. Last night I thought I'd finished but this morning I decided to risk changing the sky. I wanted the band of cloud to sit lower and the whole sky to be a little darker to set off the light sand. Couldn't resist
