I admire your work, Stephen. I said it before, I'm going to say it again...I REALLY like your paintings of these old work-horse ships. Maybe not beautiful in the conventional sense, but they float my boat (sorry about that).

What can I say Lewis but many thanks for all your kind comments. Our friends say 'I can't paint' I say anyone can paint, it's just practice. I've been practicing for 76 years and still haven't cracked it. Steve.

I agree with Lewis Stephen, there is a certain beauty about old working ships and boats and this is a fine example.

Love the movement of the sea and the ship lunging forward.

This works really well. Colours are spot on - beautiful rusts and blues and the waves are fabulous. Love the gull details too. :) Also enjoyed Jim's link to the poem quoted as a title (great title!) - one of my favourites.

Thank you Barry, Jim, Carole and Margaret for your kind observations. When I was at school we had to illustrate "Cargoes", I chose the Dirty British Coaster and it has stuck with me all these years.
