The low growing shrubs and grasses look really windswept and convincing. Great sky.

I love it; I can almost smell the sea breeze

You have a very distinctive style, recognised it immediately. A lovely painting for which I'd make room on the wall any time.Wonderful colours and textures.

I agree with all the above comments, you really do capture the atmosphere, feel as though I could walk into it, lovely painting.

I agree... I feel the wind and scent the ozone! Nice work Robert. John

Agree with above comments. Another lovely beach scene.

Very nice painting Robert.Great depth and atmosphere.

Many thanks for all your comments: this was going into the bin until I took another look a few days ago and thought I could tighten it up; a touch here and a touch there turned into a complete repaint of the sky and sea, and the introduction of some stronger colour - and crucially, I think, darks - into the foreground. So don't throw things out, just put them away until you can see them properly would seem to be the message. I still wasn't sure about it, so your comments have been extremely helpful.

Masterfully done once again. Thank you. Chi2

Robert this is cracking. I can't see a single thing I don't like about it... Sky 10/10, sea 10-11/10, foreground 9.5/10. very, very strong piece. Wish I'd painted it.

Just logged in looking through the Acrylics. Recognized your style immediately. I love this painting. Smashing foreground. I would hang this on my wall. Excellent.

Great comp. brushwork and movement, excellent painting.

Hi Robert. How's this for coincidence: Browsing your portfolio when your comment on my picture was posted. Your work has real depth, texture and movement, which strongly evokes the scene. Conveys a sense of 'being there'.

Robert I like this painting. Very interesting composition. Is there a storm in the horizon?

Abraham, I find, in life, there's always a storm on the horizon....

Hello Robert. You're so generous with your comments. I've been idling through your gallery and enjoyed it hugely. I've also been the beneficiary of the wisom and generosity of your comments on other artists' work - not least on method (home or location etc.). I too am completely self-taught, and whilst there are certainly shortcuts that a teacher could have given me, I'm grateful for the experience (frustration and all) that trial-and-error has brought. As you say, the danger with single teaching is the risk of involuntary stylistic plagiarism. I've been through several manuals and such like, and whilst I may aspire to the skill on display in them, I'm secretly grateful when my daubings miraculously turn out to be unmistakably mine! Please keep your feedback coming. Oh, and for what it's worth, 'Gorse, Ragwort and Thrift' is a wonderful work of art! Get well soon. Kim (Mr!)

hi Robert good that you saved this one, it is beautiful. I can just imagine standing in the blowing wind looking out over the sea.

I agree with Ade. I love the strong contrasting lights and darks as the storm rolls in! Excellent work.

After your comment on my blog thought I would look at your work, I like this one, great atmosphere with the storm brewing in that churning sea with great colour reflections, the darks in the foreground tyre it well into the background, those little shrubs that Ronald mentioned are not popular in New Zealand, they grow big over here, as a fellow Englishman I have had to say sorry for bringing them into NZ. Great having a chat on the blog enjoyed your comments.

Painted in Haste, Repented at Leisure.... one from July/August, repainted this week because it was too bland. Subject matter and even some details close to today's first posting, but very different time of year. 12" by 12", on canvas covered board.
