Well there you are: what can be achieved with an extremely limited palette. You have complete colour harmony, and a very attractive fading away into the distance. Interesting too, because Cadmium Red can be quite a crude colour - but it obviously depends on how you use it: very interesting and instructive palette; I would probably have used Flake White to get these effects - given how hard it is to find it now, I wonder if Alkyd White might be the answer I've been looking for.

Hi Robert, Alkyd Titanium white is exactly the same as any ordinary oil based Titanium White, it just reduces the drying time, so it didn't create the effects in the painting. All Alkyd colours are fully intermxable with oil colours. You are right, cadmium Red is quite a strong colour, but with practice, using the colour with reserve, it combines with the two other colours wonderfully well. Thanks again for your comments and interest. Robert

This small 12" x 10" Oil paintings was painted using the following limited palette: Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow, Cadmium Red and Alkyd Titanium White which speeds up the drying time.
