Kathleen May, Chesterfield Canal, Notts
14" x 18". This scene is on the stretch of the Chesterfield Canal near Worksop where there are 20 or so locks in a steep staircase. Hard work if you are in a boat! Kathleen May was a beautifully maintained boat belonging to a couple from Oxford and I decided to us this as the main feature of this painting. The reflections in the boat and the water, as well as the bright sunlight made for some interesting effects. I added the irises in the foreground to give balance and colour to the painting.
