Self Portrait

Self Portrait
Comments

Like the dark, moody, concentrated look - I get sick of portraits whose subjects are grinning at me.

Rhyn - you deserved more comments than this! Trouble is, work gets shifted off the front page so fast. Makes me quite annoyed sometimes, and especially now - but you sometimes wonder if Caravaggio himself posted on here, he'd get the attention he deserved...

Robert dragged my attention this way - thanks, Robert. Well, you do look rather stern, Rhynn, but that's kind of how it goes. I've done too many self portraits and I've paid too much attention to the "give us a smile" comments. Because those smiles are false, really - this is more real. This is the expression of someone who is concentrating on making a picture. I like the stylised way you have treated your hair, and the halo is interesting (it gives you a biblical look). It's a good, strong, modern portrait with echoes of the past in the earth-tones of the colour scheme. Grand.

Very kind of you all, flattered even.. This is my first ever self portrait made in oils and I'm still learning my trade, I tried to convey my character without shedding a smile .. thank you all

Rhyn, we're all still learning. Once you start thinking you know it all, you're doomed!
